INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
The inclusiveness of the education system is one of the key priorities of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
Currently, the entire education system is prepared to develop and promote an educational environment that provides equal opportunities for learning, development, and success for individuals with diverse needs and abilities.
By advancing inclusive education, the Government of Georgia is also fulfilling the commitment undertaken with the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (United Nations, 2008) in 2014.
The implementation of inclusive education principles at the vocational education level began at College “Horizonti” in 2016. Since then, numerous significant legislative and practical changes have been introduced. These include the development of alternative admission procedures for vocational education programs, individualized learning approaches, and special support services for persons with disabilities and special educational needs.
In addition, various supportive initiatives are being implemented within the vocational education system to make quality vocational education more accessible for different vulnerable groups.
The accessibility of the vocational education system for individuals with diverse needs and abilities is legally grounded in the Law of Georgia on Vocational Education, which defines inclusive education as:
"An equally accessible educational process, within which all vocational students and learners are provided with education that considers their individual educational needs and capabilities." (2018)
